Scholastic Book Order

A book order was sent home last week! This is due on Monday, March 19th if you would like me to place an order for you. I do realize I also sent home a Spanish Scholastic for those who speak a second language :) Kidding, this was an accident.
Please let me know if you need another day or two. Thanks!

My Hero!

We shared our hero paragraphs, or more, from last week! These are AMAZING! Not only did the students use their writing skills to create a fantastic and structured paragraph, but the quality and meaning to each sentence was so thoughtful! Students only read their papers if they were comfortable, and I know these paragraphs had a lot of emotion that sometimes is hard to express in front of an audience. However, I have read them all on my own and I was blown away! We had 100% participation on this activity, and I was so proud reading through each and every paragraph of all the wonderful inspirations in each students life!

WW Talent Show

We talked about this in the classroom. If your child is interested in trying out for the talent show please let me know, or have your child let me know, and I will print off a permission slip to send home for your signature.
Thanks!

Homework

A new homework packet came home on Monday! I did come to find out that I sent home a reading fluency passage that has already been sent home! Yikes and sorry! I did not have Sharks crossed off on my list and students at home did! Instead, today I sent home the Walt Whitman passage to replace the Sharks passage. Sharks can be recycled. I explained this to the students today and also told them they had until Monday to turn in all homework. I know a lot of kids budget their time and spread the homework out, and even test their fluency each day. I did not want to stress any schedules out, so instead they can take the weekend on this one. I had MANY happy faces on this!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Homework

The students had a different form of homework come home this week. They are focusing on a hero and writing a paragraph about someone they look up to. My expectation is a paragraph, but students are always able to do more writing and even another hero if they like.
All directions and details are in the letter sent home on Monday and below.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Please remind students to have this back on Friday, March 9th
Thank you!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss' birthday was last Friday! We celebrated in fashion with a couple school activities to connect.
Students had a Dr. Seuss research tri-fold. Here they had clues all over the room to find while they learned more about the famous author.
They also had a spin off from All the Places You'll Go to find out where in the world they would like to visit.
Then to top it off with some goofy fun, we put ourselves as one of the characters...or put ourselves next to one :)
We had A LOT of fun with Dr. Seuss!

I'm a Dr. Seuss character!

Hamburgers

We recently wrapped up an opinion writing piece. In order to help show all the parts of our opinion, we used a visual representation to show all introductions, reasons for why they think that and a conclusion to wrap it up.
A hamburger!
The top and bottom bun intro and close their piece. The different condiments/parts to the inside of their burger signify three separate reasons and why.
They did an amazing job, from planning, to editing and then to a final published piece.
These will be in the hallway for all to see during parent/teacher conferences.
