Peace Lessons

Today we started peace lessons!!
Mrs. Sulecki is our AWESOME peace lesson leader who leads peace talks each week.
She is our school social worker, who we all know and love.
Our class peace lessons are each Tuesday morning for twenty minutes. Make sure to ask your child what they learned in this weeks lesson. These are life lessons that we use in the classroom, at Westwoods, and even outside of school in our daily lives.
Each week and each lesson os extremely valuable!

REMINDER

Friday, September 9th is half day!
Dismissal at 12:07

Team Names

As one of our introductory activities to 2nd grade, we came up with team/group names that align with our line order for our classroom. This helps groups move to the hallway, get in line, gather items, etc. Each group gathered one another's interests and then developed a name from there. Names were very creative and extremely interesting!
Golden Skull Flames
Dirt Bike Pets
Pups McLaren
Flying Puppies
Dragon Lava Stars

Win the War!!

All students have started a classroom management system called Pencil Wars! It is an encouraging way to get students to keep track of their pencils and to take care of the ones they have. Here is how it goes:
EACH WEEK
Students get 4 pencils.
It is their own responsibility to keep track of their 4 pencils, and eraser, and return them safely to their case (toothbrush holder) after each use.
END OF THE WEEK
At the end of the day on Friday, our pencil police (leadership job) will collect and look through all cases. Students who met this responsibility have won the war for the week! Those students will receive a small prize as a reward. Students who did not win the war for the week will get another chance the following week.
PENCIL EXPECTATIONS
If there are any pencils missing, the pencil(s) WILL be replaced, but a prize will not be rewarded at the end of the week.
All pencils need to be in good condition (no erasers snapped off, no pencils chewed on or broken in half, etc.) in order to receive the prize.

Human Scavenger Hunt

Today the students did an activity, a Human Scavenger Hunt, to get to know one another. They had to find out who liked what! There were a variety of interests, that excited everyone. I saw laughs, smiles, nods, and even a couple funny faces when it came to asking kids questions! We all found out different likes, interests, and favorites in their world. Always a good watch!!

WAHOO to a GREAT day!!

That it was!!
Kuddos to all your children who made it through a FULL first day of school!
It was a fun filled packed day with many smiles and great attitudes!!

Communicators went home today!
These are to travel back and forth from home to school each day, even if they are empty. This helps all students to develop the routine of bringing this home each night and bringing it back to school each morning. Most often they will have something to share with those at home. This is also a way for students to get school notes when needed. Thank you for helping your child with a friendly reminder to exercise their responsibilities for school!

New principal, Mr. Tisdale, helped start out year with a welcome, story, some laughs and a delicious apple! Great intro!!
