Hamburgers

We recently wrapped up an opinion writing piece. In order to help show all the parts of our opinion, we used a visual representation to show all introductions, reasons for why they think that and a conclusion to wrap it up.
A hamburger!
The top and bottom bun intro and close their piece. The different condiments/parts to the inside of their burger signify three separate reasons and why.
They did an amazing job, from planning, to editing and then to a final published piece.
These will be in the hallway for all to see during parent/teacher conferences.

Postcard Exchange

Postcards are coming in!!
It is so exciting to get notes and facts from other states around our country and to add to our map!
The students below belong to the states where postcards have come from so far. They were even more excited because it is the state they are researching!
We are looking forward to getting more!

Postcards are going out!
We sent out our postcards to all states!
All students worked hard to produce two postcards with Michigan facts, a small note of their own, and a little touch of their personality. Needless to say they wanted to do more :)

Olympics 2018

Homework coming home today is a little different, yet festive! We are more so focusing on current events...in sports!

The students are having the opportunity to focus on the Winter Olympics and have a little fun with it. Out of all the amazing winter sports going on currently in South Korea, the students get to choose one event they find the most interest in. After they have chosen their sport, then they can even go as far as looking at the athletes that are involved. This can go as in depth as the students want! Image result for winter olympics 2018
Information found can be from the internet, newspaper, and/or the television. I do understand there can be some limitations and road blocks to getting some Olympic information while trying to get involved with this activity. If so, please let me know.
All portfolios are due back on Monday, February 26.
Thanks and have fun!!

Valentine's Day

Valentines Day was a success! From our morning work of learning about Valentines Day all over the world, to Valentines stories, to math, to reading, to the exchange, with so much in between...we had a GREAT day!
Students took a portion of their afternoon to create their monster bags they ordered! I had all pieces they purchased laying out, they had to match their order to the pieces and create their Valentines bag. It was fun with MANY laughs!
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

THE EXCHANGE!!

Polar Bear Dens

Last week with our fourth grade learning buddies we made polar bear dens!
Students were formed in groups of 3-4 with a second and fourth grade mix of students. All students were given large and small marshmallows and a set of tooth picks. They needed to create  a den with walls all around, a ceiling, and a small opening for the polar bear to exit and enter. It also had to stand on its own for a period of time...tough!
They did an awesome job while have a great time!
