Holiday Fun

Even though The Polar Express was our holiday celebration, this Friday afternoon they will have a small portion of time to mix and mingle with one another with fun and games. You can imagine the excitement level the day before break :)

Friday, Dec. 20
Optional: Bring a board game, or card game, of choice from home to play in the classroom

*We will have the conversation to talk to parents about what is acceptable to take out of the home and to ask permission.

That afternoon we will break out the games and have fun moving around the room.
To follow we will pack
up for break and enjoy a small recess, to then enjoy our WW holiday sing along!
Our ALL school sing along is that afternoon at 3:00.
Please feel free to come and join us in the gym as we sing our way to holiday break!

Journeys Lesson 12

12 Days of Christmas Kindness

In the classroom the students made a Santa with a long beard full of kind deeds for school and home. Starting last Thursday, and for 12 days, they have the job of completing at least one kind deed a day at home or school. Then they can come back to school to color in the kind deed they expressed. They are only coloring in one a day, but we talked about exceeding expectations :)
This activity helps teach the kids how to be kind, how to spread kindness, and also how to show others how to be kind. All kindness Santa's will come home Dec. 20th!

November Book it!

ALL November Book It! coupons came home last week.
If your child read 15 days or more in November, and turned in their calendar, they received their FREE pizza coupon! So good! They also received an extra incentive from me to start their day off on good choices for the week. Wow!
*Students can explain to you what that means :)

Please take a moment to sit down with you child to look over their successes and areas we will continue to work on.
You may keep the report card, and all other papers inside the envelope. However, please send back your child's report card envelope signed. We will reuse this for the next round of report cards. Thank you!

I Survived the Titanic

We are beginning a book study in class.
I Survived: The Sinking of the Titanic
Not only are we reading this as a class, but we are also talking about the vocabulary and having comprehension discussions per chapter.
We are enthralled in the book and are enjoying a good read about an actual event in history!

Hagerty Gives Back

Hagerty insurance participated in Giving Tuesday once again!
ALL second graders in TCAPS went home with a brand new cook called If I Built a Car. Great book!!

Three awesome Hagerty employees visited Westwoods to not only read and pass out the book, but they also brought swag for the kids to construct! They were able to build their very own Hagerty sunglasses!! They had fun doing it!
Thank you to Hagerty for your generous donation of books and sunglasses to all second graders!
