Seasons Greetings from Mrs. Gang in the Art Room!
We like to recycle in art, but we LOVE to re-USE! Please feel free to send in during January 2022 your Christmas cards you're receiving this month. We ask for traditional card FRONTS only, no photos of friends or the inside written message. No bag necessary (save plastic!), I will have a box outside of the art room in January. Journeys Lesson 10

12 Days of Christmas Kindness

To add to the holiday spirit we are doing the 12 Days of Kindness! Starting last Thursday, and for 12 days, we have the job of completing at least one kind deed a day at home or school. Then we color in the kind deed expressed. We are only coloring in one a day, but we talked about exceeding expectations.

This activity helps teach the kids how to be kind, how to spread kindness, and also how to show others how to be kind. All kindness Santa's will come home at the end of next week!

Due back on Monday, Dec. 6
The below two pages came home with students today (Dec. 2).
In connection with starting Unit 2, here is a connecting activity to do at home! Students were directed to find someone at home to do this with in chunks. Doing it all in one sitting could be a lot :) THANK YOU for your help on this!

Math Unit 2

 Unit 2: Addition Within 200
In this unit we will be working with place value, representing numbers in different ways, and comparing numbers. We will be adding two, three, or four digits numbers, sometimes resulting in new tens or new hundreds, with sums to 200.

The big ideas within this unit include:
Representing numbers using base-ten numerals, expanded form, and word form
Visually showing numbers to 200 in different ways
Applying addition concepts and strategies to real world situations, and solve 2-digit addition problems.
Money and fluency for addition within 100

Hagerty Gives Back

Hagerty insurance participated in Giving Tuesday once again!
Employees from Hagerty visited all second grade classrooms in TCAPS for another year. Which means ALL second graders in TCAPS went home with a brand new cook called Bertha Takes a Drive. Great book!! The added bonus at Westwoods was Mrs. McNitt's sister, Maggie Hardy, and friend, Sara Schoenlein are on the Hagerty team who came to spread the literacy kindness our way...while also bringing some extra swag!
Thank you
for sharing this awesome experience with our classroom AND thank you to Hagerty for your generous donation of books to all second graders!
