Our classroom has been learning all about the Olympics over the past couple of weeks! We have had some FUN with this while even connecting many different Olympic videos. Nice to see it in action!
You will see a booklet coming home today that we have been working through. All pages that are done were either done independently and checked as a group OR done as a group. Either way, your child's job was to correct any mistakes as we went through each page.
There are also some pages that are not done. These are pages that they can do at home as extra practice! Especially the short passages in the back. We read these pages independently (as a cold read) then aloud together. All questions are then answered in a COMPLETE sentence.
Enjoy!

We are beginning a scientific study of solids and liquids!
Here are some things we will be doing!
Observe the properties of many solids and liquids
Comparing how solids and liquids are alike and how they are different
Organize the results of our inquiries
Communicate both orally and in writing the things we discover.
These processes (observing, communicating, comparing, and organizing) are the basic thinking processes students need at this age to develop a scientific understanding of the world around them.

They are jazzed about science and might ask you for help finding solids and liquids at home.
* You’ll want to discuss and compare the different characteristics of those you find. (For example, how are salt and sugar alike? How are they different?)
*You may find yourself observing what happens when solids and liquids are put together. Making lemonade or salad dressing can provide interesting observations when solids and liquids are mixed. *Watching an ice cube melt is a way to observe a solid change to a liquid.

The Second Grade classes will be celebrating “2’s”day next Tuesday 2-22-22 Our day will be spent working with concepts that come in twos or doubles, playing games involving twos, and just having a “two”riffic day!

Your child is invited to attend school wearing tube socks, two neckties, tutus, tennis shoes, etc.  Our theme will obviously be “2!”  Please feel free to help your child get creative with our theme.  We super excited to celebrate such a special day!

We have begun Unit 3 in math!
