Chalk Outlines

On Friday afternoon we took math outdoors and joined forces with the other second grade classroom!
Students were partnered up and used chalk to measure one anothers heights. Students were able to be as creative as they wanted to measure their heights, and of course they all took to outlining their bodies. In addition, they also had a variety of tasks to complete, all related to the measurements they found.
- Conversions from inches to feet and inches
- Find the difference between the two heights
- Determine which partner had the greater height
It was a nice change from the norm of being in the building in our classroom!

Even though we celebrate Earth Day everyday, we put a little emphasis on today. We did a variety of Earth Day activities that connect to different parts of our science and language arts units. Students wrote an acrostic poem, made a flip page, created a headband and contributed ideas to their own posters. We shared a lot of great conversation on how to protect and take of our earth!

Pre-NWEA

Language Arts centers were in full swing before NWEA testing Tuesday morning. Students explored big books, played memory/matching with the different genres, and did a jelly bean match to different parts of speech. They wanted longer to play each station...so I think they had fun :)
Definitely something we will do again!
