Journeys: Lesson 10

Within Lesson 10, and throughout our week, we will be focusing on a variety of new concepts, but also practicing and building on topics already learned.
We also have two new texts that are of use when it comes to new concepts being reinforced.

Jellies: The Life of Jellyfish
Genre: Informational Text
Most children are fascinated by animals - as pets, in the wild, creepy, or exotic. This informational text helps children understand what particular physical features jellyfish have that help them survive.
This text will identify reasons to support a fact or an opinion while also identifying the author's purpose for writing the text.

Splash Photography
Genre: Informational Text
Children will regularly encounter informational text in textbooks, on the internet, and through other media. This text gives factual information about a familiar topic - photography - and will expand on children's knowledge of the topic with details about underwater photography.
Students will use a diagram to enhance understanding and discuss how labels help to clarify information in a text.

Thanksgiving Fun

This week has been a blast incorporating Thanksgiving into our learning! Always fun when preparing for a holiday!!
Here are some highlights from last week and our short week...

Directed drawing of a pumpkin
This was a last minute plan. We heard Mrs. McPherson's class was doing this and we decided to join in on the fun! So both classrooms drew this together...so good! Today our classroom finished coloring our pumpkins. Some kids are done, some are still working on it Tuesday, and some decided to finish it at home. Either way you will see their masterpieces coming home today or tomorrow.

Place Value Turkeys
Everyone had their own unique number to work with. Then they took their number and analyzed its place value and form. Fantastic to see how independent they are becoming on place value!

Thankful Turkeys
With our fourth grade learning buddies we did created thankful turkeys!

Learning About Thanksgiving
We used a great website through Scholastic to look at what Thanksgiving is and where it all began. If students wants to continue looking, or finish the facts they were searching for yesterday, this is on their Google Classroom Reading web page.

 Directed Drawing of a Turkey
This time Mrs. McPherson's classroom joined in on our fun! Together we drew a unique turkey of our own. Then we colored our turkey and gave it a beautiful background. They turned out amazing! I wanted to keep them all :) Enjoy each piece of art for your Thanksgiving!
