Wilbur is the star of a new Westwoods book!
Each student at WW received their very own copy of this inspiring story.

 Heather Shumaker is a local author that is coming to visit second grade on May 6th!
She is coming to talk about her experience as an an accomplished author, while also inspiring our young students to write! 
Heather will talk about her award winning book, The Griffins of Castle Cary. 
Students are able to order The Griffins of Castle Cary, have Heather sign a copy and also personalize their book with a short message.
Order forms came home on Monday to complete and send back by May 6th

CKLA Knowledge: Immigration

Students explore the idea of e pluribus unum and the importance of immigration in the history of the United States—with a focus on the great wave of immigration between 1850 and 1920. They learn reasons why people immigrate and why they settle in certain cities and regions. In learning about citizenship, students are introduced to basic knowledge about the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights.

Demonstrate understanding of key vocabulary

Cite evidence from a text when answering questions

Make connections and sequence information to deepen comprehension

Collect information from Read-Alouds and synthesize it into short summaries

Plan and draft a story describing a character’s life as a new immigrant in the United States
