Book Bins

This week we are trying something new with our classroom and Mrs. DePlaunty's (second grade) classroom. We have seven separate non-fiction reading bins in our classroom, with four students assigned to one bin. Each day they get choose a text from their selected bin which includes a large variety of books on a given topic. In addition, students also choose a graphic organizer to write an assigned response. Each day they will rotate bins so they have a different topic to read about.
Today was our first day and all students were engaged and on task!
Next Thursday, Mrs. DePlaunty and I will switch bins, which will introduce seven new topics to the students. This will continue until the end of the school year.

Book, Blanket & Buddies

We took our reading outside to round out our morning with Book & Blanket!
Beautiful day!
Students did an awesome job reading outside, staying on task, and sharing their books and responses with a neighbor.
Definitely will be doing this again!

Ducks!

Following Field Day we had a couple surprise visitors!
Mrs. LeAnn from Kids Hope brought her own ducklings in to show the students. They were able to get a quick lesson on the life of a duck, hold one and feed them an early lunch.
Very cool opportunity and loved by all!
