Fruit Loopers!

As we approach the end of our graphing unit students were able to take all they have learned and create a Fruit Loop Graphing project! Throw a little sugar and glue into math and the kids already love it!
All students partnered up and received a bucket of Fruit Loops! With the loops, they categorized their data into six different colors. They then counted how many loops were in each group rounded and estimated an amount then graphed their results into a bar graph.
Using the bar graph they were able to read and interpret the data by:
Identifying which had more and less
Calculating the difference between different groups
Calculating the sum of one or more groups together
Taking the extra challenge by creating real world story problems with the data (addition, subtraction, multiplication OR division)
This was a two day project that the students engaged in. As they achieved their second grade learning goals and beyond for our graphing unit, they were able to show their achievements and mastery through conversation, written and visual work.

Last step was to take the Fruit Loops and create a line plot with each piece. The willpower of not eating the loops as they were placed on their graph was impressive!
They were working hard and best of all working together to talk about the efficient way to create the line plot so all data would be presented accurately.
Very nice job!!
