Even though we celebrate Earth Day everyday, we put a little emphasis on today. We did a variety of Earth Day activities that connect to different parts of our science and language arts units. Students wrote an acrostic poem, made a flip page, created a headband and contributed ideas to their own posters. We shared a lot of great conversation on how to protect and take of our earth!

Pre-NWEA
Language Arts centers were in full swing before NWEA testing Tuesday morning. Students explored big books, played memory/matching with the different genres, and did a jelly bean match to different parts of speech. They wanted longer to play each station...so I think they had fun :)
Definitely something we will do again!

Graphing!
Students did an great job learning the different concepts within MONEY! I'm sure they are ready for a little break, with a little review here and there. So, we are now moving into graphing!
Within this chapter students will learn how to analyze more complex picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots. They will be reading, analyzing, and interpreting:
picture graphs
bar graphs
line plots
They will also be creating their own graphs from given data and solving real world problems using the different graphs and the data shown.
By the end of the chapter students will be able to:
- Draw a picture graph and a bar graph to represent a data set with up to four categories
- Solve simple put together, take apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.
- Show measurements by making line-plots, where the horizontal scale is marked off in whole numbers.
Figurative Language
Students have been learning about different concepts within figurative language.
Similes
Metaphors
Personification
Hyperbole
Alliteration
Idioms
Onomatopoeia
We have had a ton of fun going over each concept! Students have read different examples linked to our poetry unit. They have also created their own writing through a variety of activities, along with different video clips to help enforce the concepts. Below is one of the activities for onomatopoeia. Students were able to come up with their own imitation of a sound to decorate our door.
Needless to say it was a loud day! :)

Reminders & Notes
Bullying Prevention Week
This week we are celebrating our school-wide effort to prevent bullying. Today students were able to get one fingernail painted blue during lunch. Tomorrow we will be tracing, decorating and labeling our hand prints to attach to a school-wide banner. This will signify our hand raised to make the pledge “Bully Free Starts With Me.” We will also be decorating our classroom door. On Friday, everyone is asked to wear their Bully Free T-Shirt or the color blue to raise awareness that Together We are the Solution!! The “bluest” class on Friday will earn an extra recess!
