Creating a Reading Environment

Students went shopping today! For books that is...but they were pretty stoked! They were introduced to new series and found some old ones they still enjoy. Book choice involves more than just walking up to a book and selecting the one with a fancy cover. We talked about how to find the "just right" books for our reading by opening books and looking at the text. 

Not too easy, not too hard, but just right. We compared it to riding a bike. Keep the muscles working by using learned reading strategies and skills, and give ourselves a challenge to reach our goals and to grow as readers. Students should be able to do this at home as well for books they are choosing.

 We are creating a reading environment in our classroom that students are going to continue to learn from.
