Chapter 6: Skip Counting

Before break we wrapped up division and multiplication in Chapter 5 where students were taught the basic properties. They were taught to multiply and divide using the concept of equal groups and relate it to the appropriate multiplication and division sentence.

In Chapter 6 we are going to be learning more about multiplication tables of 2, 5, and 10. And also extend on this by using these more familiar multiples to learn new concepts and strategies in order to multiply harder facts. For example, they will be using arrays as a visual for multiplication. Then students can use arrays as a guide when using known multiplication facts (2x5) to find new multiplication facts (2x6)
For example:
6x6 = 5 groups of 6 + 1 group of 6
6x6 = 6x5 + 6x1
6x6 = 30 + 6
6x6 = 36
Within in Chapter 6 students will also be
solving multiplication word problems
Using dot paper (arrays) to multiply
