Teach the Teacher DAY 5 & DAY 6

Ellie introduced us to her parakeets, Polly and Daisy! She taught us how she takes care of her birds and the ins and outs of having birds for pets. Then she included a connection to her parakeets when she visited the John Ball Zoo! Nice job Ellie!

Sam conducted a science experiment that drew a lot of excitement. He taught us, with some diet coke and a little bit of salt, you can blow up a balloon! We were very intrigued that we had him do it twice!
Good work Sam!

Lainie has a large interest in Harry Potter and she decided we needed to learn all about these characters she is reading about. Not only did she teach us the facts of all five main and secondary characters, but she also took questions and answered all with confidence. Nice work Lainie!

Sarah brought in a fun art project to teach us! She took us through the steps of how to draw a Nion Cat. She was very patient and made sure everyone was on track with her before moving on to the next part to draw. In the end, all kids were excited to have a colorful cat that they now know how to create on their own. Good job Sarah!

Maylin was another lesson that taught students how to create a craft. We learned how to make a friendship bracelet from small rubber bands. She brought her large collection of bands and showed everyone the process of moving rubber bands in and out to connect each band to eventually have a bracelet. Nice work Maylin!

PiZzA!

Last Friday was our pizza celebration! The sun was out and the weather was awesome! Students also during this time were able to get their yearbooks if they purchased one. They had a great time looking through the memories of their second grade year, as well as getting a signature from their classmates.
All smiles :)

Teach the Teacher DAY 4

Hudson performed a science experiment! We were very excited to learn the steps of how dish soap reacts to pepper. He had the steps nicely prepared and written out for all to jot down. Then Hudson put each step together and showed an example of the reaction. Very cool to watch the pepper move quickly in different directions forming almost a star, and some even instantly sink! Nice work Hudson!

Jason took his love of drawing and showed 'how to draw a ship' to the classroom. He had examples to show before beginning his lesson, so all students had a picture of what they were going to be doing. Then he began with each step, and included an explanation to each vocabulary word. As he went through, the students were drawing their version of a ship also. He told the students to be creative with the water part, and they were :) Nice job Jason!

Kyle brought more of his fishing equipment back to teach us another aspect of getting the good catch! This time he brought decoys. Not only did we see real examples of what he uses, but he also taught us how to make a decoy to use in the water if we didn't have one.
The other difference he explained to us is what to use for ice fishing and how to fish in open water. Well done Kyle!

Sammy brought one of her hobbies in to teach the class! She taught how to drum, the names to each drum she uses, and also how to perform a beat and rhythm on her drum set. She did an awesome job explaining and also did a demonstration that everyone wanted to see again! Amazing work Sammy!
